KOZHIKODE: Getting emergency guidelines over phone on any medical condition or trauma will not be a daunting task anymore. Just dial a unique number, a virtual doctor on the other end will answer any queries related to medical conditions.'Dr. MIMS', a roundtheclock free virtual doctor service, joint venture of the Kozhikodebased Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) and BMG Animations envisaged as a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility Measure will be a reality within a month in the state.The innovative move, considered to be first of this kind in the country, envisaged at a cost of around Rs 60 lakh will allow the public to make calls round the clock to clear doubt, get health tips or seek guidance on any medical condition concerning them.The animation series featuring virtual doctor giving first aid in various medical conditions will go on air by the end of June month in the television channel. In the initial phase, it will cover medical conditions pertaining only to accidents and emergency medicines. A help desk comprising 24 students, who have been pursuing their Masters Programme in Emergency Medicine offered by the George Washington University at the hospital, will attend the calls.Elaborating the innovative move that blends new information and communication technologies in health care, MIMS Managing Director Dr Abdulla Cherayakkat said through the measure we aim to impart health education programme to public. The service will include other health streams on the basis of demand from the public, he said. ''Efforts are on to finalise a unique number to make calls,'' he added.The BMG animations has already prepared around 30 animation series featuring virtual doctor having duration of three to four minutes for the telecast.An eight-member core committee headed by Dr Abdulla Cherayakkat wrote the script of the animation spots.According to Thanveer Gaffoor, Managing Director, BMG Group, said the idea is to transform virtual doctor as an 'apna doctor' of every Malayali around the globe. ''We will also introduce virtual doctor as a mobile phone application in tie up with mobile operators.Talks have almost finalised with one of the telephone company and discussions are on with other telephone service providers,'' he said. When contacted, Rajiv Sadanandan, new Secretary of the Health Department said it is very difficult to make comment without fully knowing and seeing the concept.
