Sri Venkatadri Vaibhavam, a multilingual, multimedia dance feature on Lord Venkateswara was staged for the very first time in Hyderabad at the Hariharkala Bhavan. A production of Abinaya Natyalaya, Chennai, the dance ballet was performed over 80 times worldwide.
With a unique blend of religion, music, dance and visuals, Sri Venkatadri Vaibhavam chronicled the life of the Hindu god. It showcased the journey up the seven holy hills from Tirupathi to Tirumala, to the shrine of Varahaswami, and then a dip in the Pushkarani, followed by a glimpse of the stately Golden Gopuram. This was then followed by enactment of two incidents that occurred at the holy shrine of Balajee – the descent of the Akasha Ganga and the story behind the practice of placing Pacha Karpooram (camphor) on the Lord’s chin.
The dance feature also brought to the audience glimpses of Abhishekam being performed for the Lord and other important events like the Garuda Seva, Kalyanotsavam and Dolothsavam.
The ballet was choreographed by Kalaimamani Krishnakumari Narendran, founder and director of Abinaya Natyalaya, and the music was composed by violin maestro Nadabrahmam Kalaimamani Kunnakudi Dr R Vaidyanathan.
The ballet was being staged as part of Hydourite, an initiative celebrating the spirit of Hyderabad with over ‘100 days of celebrations’.
