New Delhi: Millions of devotees walk the 450 kilometer route from Alandi to Pandarpur near Pune to mark the Waari festival.
The festival begins on June 26. The walk is devoted to Lord Vithal, a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. The festival is undertaken in the Hindu month of Ashadhi Ekadashi.
The pilgrims are mainly agriculturists. After travelling for almost half a month, devotees will reach Pandharpur on the July 14 and pay tribute to Lord Vithal.
It's remarkable that in over 700-years of the Waari tradition, there has not been a single case of stampede.
