CHENNAI: An order dated July 25 this year detaining ‘Pottu’ Suresh, an associate of Union Minister M K Alagiri, under the Goondas Act, was set aside by the Madras High Court on Friday.The subjective satisfaction expressed by the detaining authority could only be termed as not based on cogent materials and hence it was vitiated, a division bench comprising Justices C Nagappan and T Sudanthiram said and quashed the detention order.The bench was allowing a habeas corpus writ petition from R L Ashokan of Chinnasokkikulam in Madurai seeking the release of Suresh.The observation of the detaining authority that the detainee caused disruption to public peace and public order and his activities were detrimental to the maintenance of peace was not based on any material, the bench added.
