Though his family continued to shy away from the media, the chairman of Global Hospitals Group, Dr K Ravindranath, finally announced, “His condition is stable.” This came minutes after he visited the liver transplant wing, where the former Maharashtra CM is being treated. This was also concurrent with the statement of Congress MP from Nagpur, Vilas Muttemwar, who told journalists: “He is certainly improving and we hope that he will recover from this difficult time soon.”Muttemwar, a close party aide of Deshmukh from Maharashtra, arrived on Tuesday and has been watching his health status improve, ever since.At 3.15 pm, Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan arrived here by a special flight and was at Deshmukh’s bedside. He spent close to an hour with the Minister and his family before departing for Mumbai. A source in the security detail revealed, “He was able to spend some time with him (Deshmukh), though he was barely conscious. The family was quite touched by his visit and support,” said the source.Chavan was accompanied by 10 ministers from the Maharashtra State Assembly. He had hired a 14-seater plane to fly to Chennai and back. Well-placed sources in the hospital revealed that though his condition had stabilised, it wasn’t too much better than it was when they admitted him.“He’s not worse. That much we can assure you, but getting better or cured is a long way away,” said the source. Though there hasn’t been any official confirmation, sources have indicated that Deshmukh is indeed afflicted by liver cirrhosis and cancer. Besides this, he has to be on dialysis, as his kidneys are in remission.As reported by Express, Deshmukh is under the care of reputed liver transplant surgeon Dr Mohamed Rela, though his body condition is nowhere close to be fit enough to undergo a transplant.
