The FDR works were completed shortly after the panchayat elections which reeks of favouritism, they alleged. The petitioners said five road projects, including construction of two bridges, were completed under MGNREGS. All the works were done by machines in violation of MGNREGS norms. Alleging poor quality work and misappropriation of funds, they said the two bridges were constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore which is much beyond the actual cost. According to a conservative estimate, hardly Rs 40 lakh would be required for the construction of the two bridges, they said. While the works were executed by a group of vested interests of Jajpur block, the block officials responsible for distribution of works were party to the loot of public money, they said. The petitioners demanded a thorough probe into all the MGNREGS and FDR works completed in Similia panchayat after the panchayat election and action against corrupt officials and unscrupulous local politicians. Meanwhile, a joint secretary of the Panchayati Raj Department has reportedly conducted an inquiry into the allegations and submitted his report to the Government.first published:January 01, 1970, 05:30 ISTlast updated:January 01, 1970, 05:30 IST
