New Delhi: Traders at Delhi's three biggest fruit and vegetable wholesaler markets called off their daylong protest after the AAP government assured them that their demand would be met. The wholesalers at Azadpur along with two of city's biggest vegetable martkets are back to work.
However, they said will protest untill their demand were met.
The wholesalers had protested on Monday against the government decision changing the commissiion pattern and making it mandatory to take commissiion from buyers and not the farmers. The traders had threatened they would take to the streets and go on an indefinite strike if the new order was not taken back which could have led to shortage of vegetables and fruits, as well as price rise.
Earlier, Delhi High Court had issued an order on October 2013, which directed agents to charge commission, not from the seller (farmers) but from the buyer. What the court order says is that instead of charging a six per cent from the farmer, the commission agent should take this from the wholesaler or retailer purchasing vegetables and fruits from him.
Meanwhile, the AAP government blamed the BJP for the strike.
