Delhi High Court on Thursday extended the interim protection from arrest granted to suspended IAS officer Pooja Khedkar until October 4, 2024, which marks the next date of hearing in the case.
The court adjourned the matter after the related counsels sought time to make detailed submissions. The High Court on August 12 had first ordered the Delhi Police to avoid arrest of the former IAS officer till August 21 which was subsequently extended till today by court order.
Meanwhile, the counsel for the Delhi Police informed the court that as the investigation proceeds in the case of faking identity against Khedkar, a larger conspiracy is emerging which may lead the probe further.
What Is The Case Against Khedkar?
The Centre discharged Khedkar from the Indian Administrative Service with immediate effect on September 7 after she was accused of cheating and misusing OBC and disability quota benefits for selection in the service, a charge that she vehemently denied on several occasions.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had earlier claimed that Khedkar committed fraud by faking identity in the application for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2022, to get reservation benefits.
The commission lodged a criminal case against her for availing attempts in the civil services exam by misrepresentation of her background. Acting on the complaint, the Delhi Police registered an FIR under provisions of the Indian Penal Code, IT Act and Right of Persons with Disabilities Act.
The Delhi Police told the high court that Khedkar submitted two disability certificates to show multiple disabilities and its probe has revealed that one of the documents may be “forged” and “fabricated”.
