Tension prevailed at the Rourkela Government Hospital following death of a girl who had sustained critical injuries in a wall collapse on Sunday morning.
Alleging negligence on the part of the attending doctors, locals laid siege to the hospital. They argued that immediate medical attention could have saved the child.
Even as tension ran high, Rourkela ADM RN Mishra rushed to the spot and police were deployed to prevent the situation from flaring up.
The ADM said Rs 10,000 had been granted to the bereaved family and the administration would explore possibilities to extend help from the natural calamity fund. He said the administration has received allegations that the child was denied timely treatment leading to her death. Appropriate action would be recommended against the doctors on duty after an inquiry, he added.
Tangarpali Police here said the incident occurred around 9 am at Dabarbasa slum near Fertiliser Township when a mud wall crashed following heavy rains.
The victim, Manisha Kalondia (3), her mother and another 12-year-old girl were reportedly trapped under the debris while passing by the wall. The other girl too had sustained injuries.
A case has been registered and the body sent for autopsy.
