New Delhi: Dismayed over allegation of corruption charges, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Saturday filed separate defamation suits in Delhi High Court against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad for making defamatory comments against the cricket body for misusing funds.
"We have filed civil defamation suits against Delhi Chief Minister and Kirti Azad seeking Rs 2.5 crore as damages from each of them for making baseless allegations against DDCA," DDCA treasurer Ravinder Manchanda said in his statement.
Advocate Sangram Patnaik too confirmed that they have taken action against them for making derogatory statements in public to malign the image of DDCA.
He claimed that the charges - over financial irregularities and corruption in selection of junior players – slapped by them (Kejriwal and Azad) was an attempt to maligning its image and are baseless.
Earlier, on December 21, 2015, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley filed civil and criminal defamation cases against Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders for making charges of alleged financial irregularities in DDCA during his 14-year-old tenure as its chief. He has sought damages of Rs 10 crore from them.
