Seoul: South Korea took a 2-0 lead against India with victory in both singles matches on Friday of their first round Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone Group I tie.

Rohan Bopanna, ranked 232th in the world, took the first set 6-3 against 677th-ranked Chung Hee-Seok of South Korea with powerful serves on the hard outdoor court in the souther city of Changwon.

But Chung fought back in the second set, playing defensively from the baseline and forcing Bopanna to make errors. He clinched the match 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.

In the day's second match, South Korean Lee Hyung-Taik, ranked 89th, took just 95 minutes to beat 249th-ranked Prakash Amritraj 6-2, 6-2, 6-0.

The South Korean pair of Kwon Oh-Hee and Jun Woong-Sun meet India's best pair Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi in Saturday's doubles.

South Korean team captain Jeon Yong-Dae said in a pre-match interview that his squad would concentrate on the singles rubbers.

"India is far superior to my squad in the doubles. So my target is to win all single matches," he said.

Paes is ranked eighth in the world doubles, while Bhupathi teamed with Martina Hingis of Switzerland to win the mixed doubles at the Australian Open last month.
