In the latest twist in the Sheena Bora murder case, sources say that crucial evidence might have been lost. Sources in the Mumbai Police had on Thursday said that samples of Sheena's remains that were found on May 23, 2012 in Pen were sent to the FSL lab for DNA testing. However, sources claim that the sample is untraceable.
There have been several twists and turns in the murder case. Sheena was allegedly killed by her mother Indrani Mukherjea who is the wife of former Star India CEO peter Mukherjea.
Police sources had claimed that proper procedure was followed by Raigad Police in preserving the crime scene in May 2012.
Meanwhile, Sheena's brother Mikhail Bora who came out on Wednesday claiming that Indrani had killed his sister, will be reaching Mumbai to join the investigation. He had earlier refused to come to Mumbai stating that he fears for his life as high profile people are involved in the same.
While two confessions were made in connection with the murder case on Thursday, the motive of the killing could not be ascertained by the investigators. Even as Indrani's driver spilled the beans on the modus operandi of the crime, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna stopped short of confessing to the crime.
Nailing Indrani and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, the driver, Shyam Rai, has given the account of the cold-blooded murder. According to the statement of the driver, Indrani went for a recce on April 23, 2012 along with him in Gagode village near Khopli Pen road in Mumbai where she planned to dump Sheena's body after killing her. Following this, she gave a call to her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna.
The next day, on April 24, Indrani booked a room at Worli hill top hotel in Mumbai as Sanjeev arrived from Kolkata after the phone call. The duo picked up Indrani's daughter Sheena at around 7 pm the same day from near National College at Linking Road in Bandra.
Sheena was allegedly strangulated inside the car by Indrani and Sanjeev, and body was dumped inside a bag, which was put at the back of the car. Later, the bag was allegedly set on fire at around 4 am on April 25. Sanjeev returned to Kolkata after disposing off Sheena's body.
However, Sanjeev Khanna reportedly told the police that he was inside the car in which Sheena was murdered, but did not confess to the killing. This was confirmed by public prosecutor Shorin Ghaushal.
The police, meanwhile, got the permission to bring him to Mumbai with a Kolkata court granting the transit remand.
