New Delhi: A policeman who was 'fat shamed' by Shobhaa De on Twitter has hit back at the author-columnist for 'mocking' him and asked her to suggest weight-loss tips.

Speaking to News18, Daulatram Jogawat, an inspector posted in Madhya Pradesh's Neemuch town, responded to De's post said: "Nobody loves to be overweight. If madam knows about some weight-loss treatment, then help me lose weight… It is not good to mock someone without having any detail about the person."

Jogawat said he has been fighting obesity ever since he underwent an operation for gall bladder-related issues in 1993.

Coming to Jogawat’s defence, Superintendent of Police Manoj Singh said: "Despite facing health problems, Jogawat performs his duty with the utmost sincerity. He was lauded by the court many times for his work.”

Shobhaa De’s tweet of an overweight policeman captioned “Heavy police bandobast in Mumbai today!” did not go down well with the Mumbai Police who made their displeasure clear on the micro-blogging site.

Twitterati were also quick to point out that the photo was that of a Madhya Pradesh policeman and took on the author for ‘body shaming’ a policeman.

The author later clarified on Twitter that she did not intend to offend anyone and advised the cop in question to consult a dietician.
