A tailor has been asked by a consumer forum in Indore to pay Rs 3,050 as compensation to a complainant for stitching two loose trousers, which were meant to be worn at a marriage function.
The forum, in its order issued last week, has asked the tailor to pay compensation while pointing out his deficient service as he did not stitch the trousers according to the desired measurements.
Acting on a petition filed by building material contractor Dharmendra Choukse (32) in 2012, the consumer forum ordered for the payment after hearing both the parties. The forum ordered the tailor to take back both the loose trousers from the complainant and pay him Rs 3,050, including the price of the cloth, stitching charges, compensation for mental harassment and the litigation expenses.
Choukse told PTI that he had ordered the Juli tailors to stitch two pants and shirts for his brothers-in-law to be worn on the occasion of his marriage on October 29, 2011.
However, as the tailor stitched loose pants and not as per their measurement, they had to face "embarrassment and mental agony" in front of the relatives during the wedding. Choukse said he had filed the complaint after the tailor neither altered the pants as per the required measurements nor listened to him.
