Cong playing with farmers’ right: Modi
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said that the Central Government is pursuing anti-Gujarat policy.

New Delhi: Strongly attacking the UPA Government at the Centre, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the Government is pursuing anti-Gujarat policy and playing with the rights of farmers of the state.

"Farmers of the state have become wealthy after successful implementation of the `Jyotigram Yojna' under the five-year BJP rule in Gujarat," PTI quoted Modi as saying.

He also charged that Congress could not digest the state's progress and diverted its 200MW electricity to other Congress-ruled states, thereby affecting interests of the farming community of the state.

Modi said he would fight till his end to bring electricity back to the state and not allow Congress to "play with farmers' right and welfare."

Gujarat Congress is trying to attract farmers before the coming state Assembly elections by organising Gandhi Sandesh Yatra and Farmers Message Yatra in which Congress President Sonia Gandhi was invited at Porbander and Mehsana.

He added that if Congress wants to do something for farmers seriously then it should try to bring the diverted 200MW of electricity back to Gujarat instead of inviting Gandhi to the state.

He said farmers in Saurashtra region had been facing water shortage during Congress rule in the state and added the issue could have been solved had proper steps been taken then.

He opposed the Centre's decision to import wheat and said Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA-government had stopped import of wheat.
