Working on the element of surprise, these vehicles would stop any truck and check their load challan, that specifies the quantity of goods being transported. Strict action would be taken against offenders, the department specified.Commissioner of Commercial Taxes Yogendra Tripathi told Express that the initiative would be an effective way to tackle the problem of non-payment of taxes by traders and truck drivers. “The officers would enforce tax compliance. We are keeping an eye out and checking for certain commodities at certain areas. Further, as and when we receive intelligence reports, we would crack down,” said Tripathi.He also specified that while such initiatives are being conducted by the department regularly, this system has been put in place to nab tax evaders more effectively. “This initiative is very people-friendly and is a normal exercise by the department. It is being done more openly now to motivate people to pay their taxes,” he explained.These vehicles are facilitated with Global Positioning System (GPS) and internet facility to avail real time access and tracking. Further, they would have multi coloured lights on the top of the vehicle for swift movement. “Non-issuance of bills by traders too would be an area that would be looked into,” he said.
