KOCHI: Stage has been set for a ‘gadget boom’ in the Kerala Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad.Advanced gadgets will be inducted into the force this year itself to take on the rising bomb threat cases in the state.Bomb squads will get advanced Deep Search Metal Detector, Portable Parcel Scanner, Search Light, Bomb Suppression Blankets, Under Vehicle Search Mirror, Extension Mirror, Prodder, Endoscope, Bomb Inhibitor, Remote Wire Cutter, RSP Tool Kit, Hook and Line Set, Binocular, Nonlinear junction detector and Navigator with GPS.“The advanced bomb detection and prevention kit and equipment will be inducted this year itself.We have got the financial clearance from the Home Department for purchasing the equipment.We have called tender,” a highly-placed official in the police headquarters said.The equipment, worth several crores of rupees, will make our bomb squad one of the most advanced squads in the country, the official said.Besides, plans are afoot to strengthen the dog squad with more canines.Recently, the bomb squad had developed indigenous and cost-effective remoteoperated robot to detect and dispose bombs and other explosives.The robot can detect bombs from a 100 meter range through its arm guide.The robot, with 100 kg base, has a lifting capacity of 600 kg and can rotate 360 degree clockwise and anticlockwise.
