BHUBANESWAR: A series of programmes marked the World Tourism Day here on Tuesday. While students of various colleges were taken out on an exploration of temples and to heritage sites in the Old Town area as a part of the heritage walk that was flagged off by Tourism Minister Prafulla Samal in the morning, the evening saw performances by famous guitarist Anders Clemens Oien and cello player Gustavo Tavares at Rabindra Mandap.The programme was organised by the Tourism Department in association with SPIC MACAY.Among others, Forest and Environment Minister Debi Prasad Mishra and Tourism Secretary Ashok Kumar Tripathy were present. A souvenir was also released by Samal.At a separate event, the Tourism Minister inaugurated a ‘pitha parlour’ at Pantha Nivas here. At the parlour, food lovers can savour nearly 10 different types of traditional Oriya pithas (cakes). “Pithas like Chandrakanti, Chakuli, Puli, Manda, Arisa, Kakara and Poda Pitha would be available,” OTDC General Manager M R Pattnaik said and added the parlour was set up after success of traditional ‘pitha festival’ that had been organised by the Corporation during Raja and other occasions.
