TIRUCHY: A battery-operated car was donated by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for aged devotees at the Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple.Two vehicles in different passenger capacities - one with 12 and the other with six - at an estimated cost of `4.5 lakh and `5.5 lakh respectively would be stationed on the temple premises. The ecofriendly vehicles run on six eight volt batteries.“The vehicle speed can be adjusted in a speed between 5 kmph and 30 kmph and the one time charge would run up to 60 kms and after each 60 km, the battery should be recharged for five hours,” said P Gopi, MD, Carrieall Car Pvt Ltd, from where the car was purchased.While, the six-seater vehicle was donated by the CM, the 12-seater vehicle was purchased by the HR &CE. This is the second temple, after Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, to have battery vehicles for devotees.
