HYDERABAD: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) officials on Wednesday filed a petition in the court seeking 10-day police custody of Syed Salahuddin Salar, accused in the 2002 Sai Baba Temple blast case. The petition was filed before the fifth additional chief metropolitan magistrate court. The court, after hearing the arguments of prosecution in support of custody of Salar, posted the matter for Thursday.Meanwhile, Salar’s defence requested the court to hand over a copy of police custody for filing a counter. CID officials said they wanted to question Salar about his involvement in the Sai Baba temple blast case and also on the role of others in it.Salar, the former all-India president of the banned Student’s Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), had been at large since the explosion on November 21, 2002. Salar’s name figured in the confession of an accused who was arrested in connection with the blast case. Salar was deported from Dubai last month and was arrested by Madhya Pradesh police and was taken to Ujjain. CID officials brought Salar to Hyderabad on a prisoner transit warrant in the temple blast case.
