Many of the team and their coaches were overcome with emotion and were fighting back tears of joy, while the United States, who were leading after three rounds, were happy in the end to settle for bronze having had to struggle to win it.
It is the second time the world champion Chinese men's team have won the title after snaring their initial Olympic gold in Sydney in 2000.
