HYDERABAD: The impact of globalization in blurring borders, both visible and abstract, was the theme of the fifth Association for the Study of Australasia in Asia (ASAA) conference which began on December 12 at Osmania University Centre for International Programmes (OUCIP). The three-day event will examine the impact of globalization on politics, culture and economic aspects which define the individual nations.The international conference has drawn 75 participants from across the country and abroad, many of whom will be presenting their research centred around ‘Vanishing borders in the age of globalism: austral-asian perspective.’ At the inaugural address, vice-chancellor of Osmania University, Professor S. Satyanarayana emphasized the importance of inter-disciplinary approaches to counter the fall-outs of globalization.The challenges of dispensing law and justice in a globalized world where administration is turning global and local at the same time was discussed in keynote speech by Nicholas Paul Hasluck AM, former judge of Supreme Court of Western Australia and a novelist. The deputy high commissioner of Australia at New Delhi, Dr. Lachlan Strahan was invited as the guest of honour and touched upon often discussed Indo-Australian alliance. The conference is being organized by OUCIP and ASAA and will conclude on December 14.
