HYDERABAD: Cyberabad police registered a case under the Copyrights Act against the organisers of Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) on Monday for allegedly playing songs from some movies during the cricket match that was held in Uppal Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Uppal police said the complaint was lodged by the authorities of Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL) on Sunday night after the match was conducted. PPL is the copyright society with respect to sound recordings and is registered with the Government of India. PPL is mainly engaged in administering the broadcasting/telecasting and public performance rights on behalf of over 160 music companies which are its members.“PPL authorities said that CCL did not take their permission to engage a DJ to play the songs though they have the patent rights,” Uppal Inspector R Satyanarayana Raju said. A case was registered against CCL under sections 51 and 63 of the Copyrights Act.
