New Delhi: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team visited Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's residence around 11:45 am on Friday. The CBI, in a statement, said this was not a raid and it only sought “clarification” from the senior Aam Aadmi Party leader with regard to alleged irregularities in Delhi government's “talk to AK” scheme.

A source close to the Deputy CM confirmed the CBI's visit. "Around 11:45 am, a CBI team visited Manish Sisodia Ji's residence. They stayed at his place for around half an hour. The party will soon issue a statement in this regard," the source said.

He added, "This is part of a larger plot to undermine the democratically elected Delhi government. The Centre is using these agencies to build pressure on AAP."

The CBI statement, however, clarified that there were no raids or searches conducted at the senior AAP leader's residence.

"As per media query, there is no raid or search at premises of Shri Manish Sisodia. The visit of CBI team is to seek clarification on certain issues relating to in an ongoing Enquiry."

The preliminary enquiry was registered based on a complaint filed by the Vigilance Department of the Delhi government.

The complaint alleged that a consultant of a well-known public relations company, Perfect Relations, was hired by the Delhi government to promote "Talk to AK" (Talk to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal) campaign and a proposal of Rs 1.5 crore was prepared for this purpose.

It alleged that despite objections from the Principal Secretary, the government went ahead with the proposal and the consultant spent the money thereby creating a liability for the government.

CBI preliminary enquiry is to probe these allegations and look into the alleged role of Sisodia and others.
