Almost all the busy market areas in the city were affected by traffic snarls that doubled on Monday owing to protests against Supreme Court’s direction to Karnataka to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
Areas like Chickpet, Nagarpet, KR Market, Russel Market and SP Road faced traffic jams from 8 am while other areas in south Bangalore were affected for two hours early in the afternoon.
“Traffic has been moving at a snail’s pace. We are all frustrated,” said Somanna, a biker in Chickpet.
Meanwhile, other motorists said that these protest areas had police security still there were traffic jams here. Jayanth Rao, a musician, who had booked a studio for an hour said he spent Rs 2,000 even without moving an inch. “How can I reach the studio on time with this traffic?” he questioned.
Incidentally, most parts of the city like Old Airport Road, Peenya, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur did not face much of a traffic jam even during peak hours. However, protest areas suffered as traffic was stopped to avoid any untoward incident.
