ALAPPUZHA: Captain Gordon Charles Pereira of the MV Prabhu Daya was remanded in judicial custody by the Ambalappuzha Judicial Magistrate for a period of seven days. He has been sent to the Alappuzha sub-jail.Alappuzha DySP K Maheshkumar said that the police will submit an application on Thursday for gaining police custody of the captain to conduct further investigation along with Mayur Virendra Kumar, who is currently in police custody.The duo will be taken to the accident site to collect more evidence.The Sri Lankan Government is also being pressured into handing over Prasobh Sugathan, the first accused in the case. He is currently admitted to a hospital in Trincomalee. An enquiry into the complaint by Prasobh’s father that his son had been thrown from the ship after it was directed towards Chennai will also be conducted after he is handed over, the police said.The police will also move the court to bring Prabhu Daya to Kochi, said Ambalappuzha CI P V Baby. The captain’s counsel submitted a petition to the court to give him special consideration in jail. The court will consider the petition on March 16.
