Montreal: A former Canadian provincial premier is expected on Wednesday to outline the results of a report that looked into the 1985 bombing of an Air India plane in which all 329 people on board were killed.
Former Ontario Premier Bob Rae said on Tuesday that he has completed the report?which he was to prepare by Canadian Public Security Minister Anne McLellan?and will announce his findings on Wednesday.
The report was commissioned to look into whether the federal government should launch an inquiry into the fatal bombing.
"There are definitely recommendations that he's going to make and definitely outstanding questions he's going to outline that he thinks need to be answered," said Taleeb Noormohamed, a senior adviser to Rae told The Canadian Press.
"Then it's up to the government to decide how they choose to respond," added Noormohamed, director of the Air India Review Secretariat set up to facilitate Rae's work.
"The minister will take the time, I'm sure, to read the report and to consult with her colleagues and to make a decision as to how she wants to proceed," he said.
The roughly 50-page report will lay out various options, including Rae's recommended approach to dealing with the loose ends of the tragedy.
Noormohamed declined to elaborate on Rae's preferred option, but indicated the former premier was mindful that victims' relatives would like answers sooner rather than later, given the passage of time.
Rae is also expected to meet with family members this morning before releasing his report and recommendations publicly.
Last May, Canadian prosecutors said they would not appeal the acquittals in the Air India bombing case because they believed they had no chance of winning a new trial.
