KOPPAL: Even though Koppal has been facing a shortage of LPG (domestic) cylinders for the last few months, none of the three major political parties — BJP, Congress and JD(S) — have taken up the issue with officials concerned. Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Corporaion (KFCSC) is the franchisee of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in Koppal for supply of LPG cylinders. KFCSC district manager Ramu on September 8, 2011, wrote a letter to the deputy commissioner and local MP about the paucity of LPG cylinders in the BPCL plant at Dharwad and sought measures to end the problem. He stated that Koppal has about 18,860 gas consumers and the town is supplied a mere 300 cylinders as against the daily demand of 700 cylinders. “Despite submission of requisition and advance payments, 2,268 cylinders were supplied as against the request for 4,800 cylinders between September 1 and 8,” he elaborated in the letter. District presidents of BJP, Congress and JD(S) failed to respond to calls from Express on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner Tulasi Maddineni maintained that she was yet to look into the letter.
