BANGALORE: To meet the labour shortage for water works, labourers from other departments such as Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board and Karnataka Police Housing Corporation will now work with Bangalore Water Supply and Swerage Board (BWSSB).
"There is a shortage of nearly 1,000 skilled workers. Currently, over 300 workers from other departments are working with us to meet the demand crunch while others are expected to join soon," said Urban Development Minister S Suresh Kumar after inspecting Cauvery IV stage II phase project work from Shiva Balancing Reservoir to Torekadanahalli (TK Halli) on Monday. The delay in sanction of permissions for laying a 6.5 kilometer pipeline replacing an open canal from Shiva Balancing Reservoir to TK Halli was discussed and the minister said that the issue was resolved and work would begin soon. The minister has been keen on completing the work by December and conducting trial flow early next year in order to provide an additional 500 mld water for the city next summer.
