BANGALORE: The Shantinagar bus stand is wearing a fresh look at length after some of the crippled facilities were replaced by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation recently.Offering the much needed respite to the commuters, the bus stands finally got rid of the tapless water dispenser, torn out city map and an ever prevailing darkness, all credit goes to the prompt reaction on the part of the BMTC officials. These welcome changes were incorporated following a report by the City Express dated June 29, under the heading ‘No peace at Shantinagar bus stand’.Located near the central office of KSRTC and BMTC, the depot is considered as the second largest nerve of the city nerve following the Majestic bus stand.Commuters are happy and cheerful about the much awaited changes and are expecting that other problems at the depot will also be sorted out soon.“I am a regular commuter at this bus stand. Although maintained fairly clean, the navigation facilities were not very user friendly with no enquiry counter and a tornout city map pasted against a wall. But with this change, our lives will be easier as far as navigation is concerned,’’ said Parvathi R, a resident of JP Nagar and a regular at the bus stand. The steel water dispensers at the platform are also fixed with taps and are being maintained clean. ‘‘Such promptness on the part of the authorities is very rare but always welcomed. But despite these changes made, there is still a lot to be done to make our journey hassle free. The stand scores poor when it comes to navigation facility with no desk available to help people. Commuters have been left on their own to figure out the buses and routes,” said Rajan, a regular commuter at the bus stop.Steps are also being take for proper lighting facility at the depot. ‘‘The work is under progress and will be completed within next three to four days,’’ said MP Prabhudas, Chief Traffic Manger Operations. When asked about the stalls charging the commuters more than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP), Prabhudas said that action can only be taken if a complaint is registered.‘‘Even public need to be cooperative, should reach out to us and register complain in the case of such irregularities.Once a complaint is registered, we can fine them for their illegal trade. But we have not received any complaint against the stall owners so far,” said Prabhudas.
