Kolkata: A BJP leader was arrested along with six alleged coal mafia for allegedly trying to exchange old currency notes on Tuesday, police said.
Manish Sharma, a BJP leader and party candidate from Ranigunj in West Bengal's Burdwan district in the Assembly polls earlier this year, was nabbed from Baguihati, while trying to exchange old currency notes in bulk, said a senior officer of Kolkata police's Special Task Force.
Meanwhile, STF on Monday night has recovered Rs 10 lakhs in new currency notes from a car in which the MP was travelling with four others.
A total amount of Rs 33 lakhs has been recovered from the persons who have been arrested.
