BANGALORE: In order to bring to book officials issuing fake caste certificates, the state government has decided to bring an amendment to the Karnataka SC/ ST/OBC (Reservation in Appointment) Act of 1990.A high-level committee comprising of Ministers S Sureshkumar, Govind Karjol, A Narayanaswamy and Rajugowda which met here on Thursday, took a decision in this regard and the Amendment Bill will be placed before the legislature in the coming session for approval.The amendment seeks to punish officials who issue fake certificates and illegal beneficiaries of the reservation under section 5 of the IPC.The state government had earlier amended the Act making provisions to punish the guilty under IPC section 6 (A).But it could not come into force as it needed Presidential assent.As per the new amendment, officials who were found guilty of issuing fake certificates will be punished with three years of imprisonment and will be fined.
