BHUBANESWAR: A Bigyan Rath, purported to create awareness on the uses of science among the masses and the 99th Indian Science Congress at KIIT, Bhubaneswar, will be flagged off on November 14 by Governor M C Bhandare. It will be set in motion from Khandapada, Nayagarh and travel to Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. During its 20-day journey, the Rath is scheduled to cover around 600 educational institutions in 30 districts. “The main focus is to create awareness on the 99th Indian Science Congress,” said KIIT founder Achyut Samanta on Monday. The Indian Science Congress, a five-day event, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will commence on January 3 and is slated to be the biggest conglomeration of scientists from across the country. The event will also witness the first-ever Women Science Congress. The Rath will be a 52-seater bus, carrying flex containing information about Rath and the Science Congress. The bus will also house an exhibit on the purpose of the Science Congress and what to expect from it. The Rath will also double up as a formal invitation to the people for the Science Congress. The faculty who will participate in the journey have been shortlisted from the 23 disciplines taught at KIIT.
