CHENNAI: Special teams have left for five districts in the State to conduct inquiries after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) claimed to have got major clues about suspects in the pipe bomb case. A pipe bomb packed with explosives was planted under a bridge near Thirumangalam – the route that senior BJP leader L K Advani was to take during his Jan Chetna Yatra on Friday. One of the special teams is inquiring into the activities of fundamentalist elements at Melapalayam in Tirunelveli, while the other teams are collecting details on the functioning of illegal stone quarries to ascertain the supplier of explosive materials used in the pipe bomb defused near Alampatti.Meanwhile, a special team has seized a detonator from near a house in Nagercoil. Police, however, said it was not connected to the case. “The detonator was planted by miscreants who were not in good terms with the occupants of the house — a man working in Dubai and his wife who teaches at a local school here,” police said.As Nagercoil has many stone quarries and shares its border with Kerala, one of the teams has been conducting probe with the stone quarries owners in the area. “We are awaiting a lab test report on the nature of explosives used. It will be ready on Monday. Only after studying the report, we can come to a conclusion,” a senior police officer in Chennai said.
