Kolkata: Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will be meeting Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata in Kolkata on Friday at 1600 hsr IST in a last ditch attempt to stop the industrial giant from moving out of Singur.
Work at the Tata Motors Nano plant in Singur has been suspended for over a month now.
The work was suspended after Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee staged a dharna at the site demanding 400 acres of land acquired for the plant must be returned to the farmers.
According to some reports Tata Motors is planning to roll out the first Nano car from its Pantnagar facility in Uttarakhand to meet its mid-October deadline.
Sources told Netwrok18 that Tatas may indicate Gujarat as the preferred destination for mother plant to vendors and are likely to clarify Singur and other related issues to vendors on October 16.
The plant in Pantnagar will produce only 100 Nanos per month during October-December with Tatas hoping to produce 50 Nanos per day in the plant by January-March 2009, sources added.
At the same time it would be looking for an alternative site in other states and is also increasing capacity at its plants in Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Pune and Uttarakhand.
Tata Motors MD Ravi Kant said the automaker expects to launch a whole range of products this year. However, he refused to comment further on the Singur deadlock.
Meanwhile, the Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath said the Centre can not do much in case the Tatas decides to relocate their Nano car project.
Heavy Industries Minister Santosh Mohan Dev, too said, ''It is none of our business to intervene.''
''If they come to us, we will intervene. But that the state government has to decide,'' Dev said on the sidelines of the annual convention of the Automotive Component Manufacturers' Association (ACMA) in New Delhi.
Even West Bengal Congress chief PR Dasmunsi has stated that the Centre had no role to play in the dispute as it was not a party to it.
On the other hand Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Raghunath Jha said Mamata should talk with Tatas and try and resolve their differences over the Singur deadlock.
''All the parties involved in the Singur matter should settle the dispute through dialouge in a peaceful manner,'' Jha said.
The Tatas have also got support from companies which will be supplying car components to them
Sona Koyo Steering System and Sandhar Technologies, who will supply steering component and lock kits respectively for Nano, are hoping for peaceful settlement of Singur deadlock.
