Beautifying the village

KOCHI: The M E T Public School, Perumbavoor together with the residents of Karattupallikara village launched a novel project called ‘Swantham Gramam Sundara Gramam’ as part of the Gandhi Jayanthi Day Celebrations.The students, parents, teaching staff and the non-teaching staff divided themselves into batches and visited each and every house of the village, cleaned their premises and carried out awareness among residents. The cleaning campaign, which will continue for one year, aims at making the village spick and span. “The concept is to set an example of an ‘Ideal Village’,” said the officials.The project was inaugurated by actor Kaviyoor Ponnamma. Saju Paul MLA, K M A Salam, Municipal Chairman, Ward councillors Babu Koonakkadan, Bini Rajan, Biji Sujith, school PTA president Anil Parambath, Biju and advocate Saamban P also attended the programme.The project aims at spreading awareness about cleanliness and hygiene, by involving children and conveying the message through them. It also makes the future generation more duty-bound and reminds them of their responsibilities, said school managing director and Kerala CBSE Schools Management Association general secretary Indira Rajan. Many activities will be initiated as part of the programme which includes planting saplings, taking steps to prevent mosquito menace, conducting seminars and setting up informative flex boards at different places.
