Bank employee found dead in swimming pool

A 26-year-old private bank employee was found dead in a swimming pool of Best Club in BEML Layout in Rajarajeshwarinagar on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Pankaj Dahima, a resident of the BEML Layout. He was working as a Derivative Executive at a private bank in Bellandur since a year. A native of Rajastan, Dahima was staying at his relative Sunil Dahima’s residence.

According to the police, Dahima had gone for swimming at the Best Club. He was accompanied by his cousin Kamal Sharma. Dahima reportedly asked Sharma to swim in a deeper area of the pool, for which Sharma refused. However, Dahima continued  swimming. After a few minutes, he went missing and Sharma, along with others, searched for him. Later his body was found at the deeper end of the pool. With the help of some staffers, they brought him out and rushed him to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

“Dahima’s relative Sunil has alleged that Dahima died as there were no proper safety measures in the pool. He has alleged that there were no swimming coaches when the incident took place. But it appears Dahima died due to some health problems and we are expecting postmortem report to know more about his death,” the police explained.

However, Sunil claims that Dahima was a healthy man and did not have any health problems. “He was very conscious about health and was a regularly swimmer. Three months ago, he took summer swimming classes at the same club and had obtained a certificate. After this, he went for swimming on every Sunday,” Sunil said.

“A week ago, Dahima’s cousin Sharma had come from Rajastan. So Dahima took him for a swim. The duo left house around 10 am and by 11 am, I got a call from Sharma, who informed me about the tragedy. I reached the club immediately and there was bleeding in Dahima’s nose. Some staff of the club were trying resuscitation operation on him. When it did not help, they rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” he explained.

“Sharma told me that he was resting after swimming while Dahima continued swimming. After sometime, he found Dahima’s body in the pool and alerted the staff there. The club staff say that they brought Dahima out of the pool in 30 seconds. How can a person die inside water within 30 seconds?,” he questioned.

Meanwhile, one of Dahima’s neighbour, on condition of anonymity, said that it was the second such tragedy in the club. “A third standard student, who had come to learn swimming, had died in the pool about four years ago. After that incident, I stopped my 10-year-old son from going to the club.”

However, the club management denied to comment about the matter. Rajarajeshwarinaagar police have registered a case and are investigating into the case.
