United Nations: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has "strongly condemned" the series of bomb attacks in Iraq calling the incident "particularly heinous" as it took place during the holy month of Ramadan.
The UN chief "appeals to the people of Iraq to reject these attempts to incite further violence in the country," his spokesperson said in a statement.
Moon called the attacks that reportedly killed dozens of people and wounded many others in several cities across Iraq as "particularly heinous" since it took place during the month Ramadan.
"He calls upon all Iraqi political leaders to continue to work together towards achieving peace through national dialogue and reconciliation," the statement added.
The over 40 coordinated attacks through car bombs, improvised explosive devices and suicide bombers on Monday targetted civilians and security personnel all across Iraq.
At least 89 people were killed and 300 wounded in the attacks.
