ANANTAPUR: The four convicted in sensational suitcase bomb case, including Mangali Krishna, were taken to the Kadapa central jail on Thursday.Krishana is from Kadapa district. Though Ramachandra Reddy, Ravindra Reddy and Subbi Reddy are from Anantapur district they were sent to the Kadapa jail since the imprisonment period is more than two years.The rivals, after failing to eliminate Paritala Ravindra in a car bomb blast in Hyderabad, hatched another conspiracy to kill him in 2001. On coming to know that the then chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu was coming to participate in Janmabhoomi at Penukonda in which Ravi was also participate as an MLA, they planned to kill him during the programme and arranged a suitcase bomb.On March 19, 2001 Anantapur One Town police arrested a local man, Obulapathy alias Chalapathi, with a suitcase bomb at NTR Circle. During interrogation Obulapathy informed police that the actual conspirators were to come by train. The police arrested Krishna, Ramachandra Reddy, Ravindranatha Reddy and Subbi Reddy, and recovered from them four 9 mm pistols, one AK-47, 190 bullets, gelatin sticks and fuse wires. A case was registered and chargesheet was filed on March 28.Investigation later led to arrest of Adinaryana Reddy, from whom also police recovered bombs. Three more were arrested on March 31.The trial began in 2009 and 10 witnesses were examined. Additional session judge Satyaveni convicted the accused under Section 120 B (conspiracy) and sentenced them to 5-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine o Rs 1,000. Under APPS they were jailed for three years and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 for possessing explosives. Both the jail terms were to run concurrently.Of the 14 accused, Obulapathy, Abdul Razak and Balija Ramakrishna of Dharmavaram died before judgment came. Nellore Prasad is still at large. Narayana Reddy, Kuntimaddi Subrahmanyam, Kesava Reddy, Raja Reddy, Yerikala Narayana and Dharmavaram former municipal chairman Nagaraju were acquitted.
