Amid Porsche Crash Outrage, Pune Police To Cancel DL Permanently of Drunk Drivers In Repeated Offences
If a driver is found under the influence of alcohol, their driving license will be revoked for three months for the first offense

Months after a minor allegedly killed two software engineers in an intoxicated state, Pune Police has come out with a stringent policy for drink and drive cases which may even lead to permanent cancellation of driving license for repeated offenders.

If a driver is found under the influence of alcohol, their driving license will be revoked for three months for the first offense. If he/she  commits the offense again, their license will be canceled for six months. Upon a third offense, driver’s license will be permanently canceled.

In last six months, 1,684 people in Pune have been booked for drunk driving.

In the early hours of May 19, the juvenile was allegedly driving a Porsche car at very high speed in an intoxicated state when the vehicle crashed into a bike, killing two software engineers – Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta – in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar.

The 17-year-old was granted bail the same day by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), which ordered that he be kept under the care and supervision of his parents and grandfather. He was also asked to write a 300-word essay on road safety.

Amid a nationwide uproar over the quick bail, the police appealed to the JJB to amend the bail order. On May 22, the board ordered the boy to be taken into custody and remanded him to an observation home.

On June 25, the Bombay High Court granted bail to the juvenile and ordered his release from the observation home.
