New Delhi: Security across all major airports has been stepped up with fresh intelligence inputs suggesting terror strikes.
An advisory has been issued by the Airport Authority of India to all major airports. While the Civil Aviation officials are calling this warning routine, the advisory talks about intelligence warnings of possible suicide attacks.
The AAI circular also warns of a terrorist strike possibly at the campaign rally of a prominent national leader.
The circular says a group of six-seven trained pilots and 30 girls may have crossed over into India, allegedly with an intention of carrying out a 9/11-style hijack drama.
A meeting of senior officials of several agencies concerned, including the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and the Home Ministry, was held on Wednesday following which the advisory was issued.
Different layers of security and safety mechanism at airports as well as in the airspace are being assessed.
Extra security personnel have already been put in place at various airports and stringent security checks have been initiated.
Sky marshals will be present on all flights and additional CISF personnel will keep guard eye on terminals.
