Pondicherry In a veiled attack on AIADMK, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said that the AIADMK combine in the union territory is autocratic and sought a fresh mandate for her party to continue its work for the people.
"Once again, we seek a mandate to continue our work and bring progress and schemes for farmers, women, youth, fishermen and weavers," she said, addressing an election rally.
Reminding the electorate of the 'trust' they had reposed in the Congress in the last assembly polls, she said the party had the experience and pre-determination to work for each and every person in Pondicherry.
She said the Union Territory government had made special efforts to improve the quality of education in Pondicherry. "In turn, we will create thousands of new jobs," she said.
Stating that the party's policy for the coming years in Pondicherry had been spelt out in its manifesto, Sonia Gandhi said the needs of farmers would be fully met.
Essential commodities like rice, kerosene and gas would be made available in adequate quantities and at reasonable prices.
