AIADMK activist drowns during celebrations

NAMAKKAL: The victory celebrations of the AIADMK local unit ended tragically at Vasanthapuram in Erumaipatty near here on Saturday after one of the cadre reportedly slipped into a well and drowned.Police sources said they received information on Monday morning that a body was found in a well in a grove belonging to R Balusamy, the chairman of Erumaipatty town panchayat.Soon a police team, led by sub-inspector Madheswaran, visited the spot and recovered the body with the help of the locals. The man who drowned was identified as N Durai alias Kanagasabapathy, a Vasanthapuram resident.Subsequently, the police sent the body to the Namakkal GH for postmortem and held investigations after registering a case under Section 174, the sources said.Investigations revealed that Durai attended a party hosted by the local leaders of the AIADMK at Balusamy’s grove on Saturday night and later took rested on a wooden plank placed over the well. Police said he might have fell down and drowned.
