Ahmedabad blasts: 9 accused get 14-day custody
Police claimed to have cracked the case on Saturday.

Ahmedabad: A metropolitan court on Sunday granted 14-day police custody to the nine accused in Ahmedabad blasts case.

They were produced before a metropolitan magistrate under tight security.

Gujarat police on Saturday claimed to have cracked the blasts case with the arrest of Abu Bashir, the alleged mastermind, from Uttar Pradesh, and the nine others belonging to the Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

The prosecution sought remand on the ground that more evidence needed to be collected, more accused needed to be arrested and conspiracy theories needed to be quashed.

The defence argued most of the accused have been in detention for several days and that contempt proceeding should be initiated against the police for disclosing the fact of the case to the media court.
