Adarsh scam: CBI likely to file chargesheet today
ED and I-T department are also likely to submit status report of the investigation in a sealed envelope.

New Delhi: The Bombay High Court will resume hearing the Adarsh housing society case on Monday. In the last hearing on April 30, the CBI had told the court that it will file the chargesheet in the case by June 15. However, with its failure to file the chargesheet, the agency is likely to again come under attack from the court.

The CBI had arrested nine of the 14 accused in the Adarsh scam only after a strong reprimand from the Bombay High Court earlier this year. However, with the accused completing 60 days in CBI and judicial custody and the CBI failing to file a chargesheet in the stipulated 60 days, all the nine are now out on bail.

The court will also hear a petition filed by seven of the accused for quashing the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act registered by the Enforcement Directorate. Their petition states that ED's case against them is not sustainable, as provisions of PMLA were not in force at the time of commission of the alleged offence.

The CBI will either seek more time to file the chargesheet or could inform the court that they are filing it on Monday itself. The CBI, ED and I-T department are also likely to submit status report of the investigation in a sealed envelope.
