Action against commercial vehicles stepped up: Delhi Police

New Delhi: A crackdown has been launched against 400 buses having tinted windows and over 250 for picking up passengers in an unauthorized manner, the Delhi Police said on Saturday.

The action comes in the wake of the gang-rape of a 23-year-old woman inside a moving bus with tinted glasses and thick curtains on Sunday night. The chartered bus chartered bus was not authorized to pick up passengers.

"Traffic police has stepped up action against chartered buses picking up passengers, drunken driving, drivers not having Public Service Vehicle (PSV) badge and having tinted glasses," said a message posted by Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police, on the department's Facebook page. The page has over 1.5 lakh followers.

Garg said that in the last three days, a total of 3,706 vehicles were prosecuted including 413 buses for having tinted windows.

Similarly, drivers of 352 vehicles, including commercial vehicles, were fined for drunken driving, and 266 chartered buses were prosecuted for picking up passengers in an unauthorized manner in the same period.

In addition, 643 public transport vehicles have been fined since Dec 19 for not having a PSV badge.
