ABVP never acted against Team Anna

KOCHI: Terming the allegations that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had attempted to sabotage the Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption as baseless, ABVP national president Milind Marathe said that the organisation has always stood firm in the fight against corruption. “In fact, the ABVP had given support to his crusade against corruption, Marathe said. Addressing reporters here, he said it was the ABVP that had first come out against the corruption committed by the Gujarat and Karnataka governments. Stating that education has been commercialised with the advent of globalisation, he said the privatisation of the higher education would be disastrous. He also pointed out that the Right to Education Act has not been implemented in many parts of the country. “The government institutions are levying higher fees from students throughout the country except in Gujarat and Punjab,” he said. The ABVP is against reservation in the education sector, he further said. The government should take the initiative to set up more institutions for higher studies, he added.
