Punjab: Amit Doda, one of the accused in Abohar Dalit murder case, was surrendered before the Punjab police on Saturday night.
Amit is a nephew of Akali Dal leader Shiv Lal Doda who is a liquor baron and continued to remain elusive.
"We took Amit's remand for further investigation. The main accused in the case Shiv Lal Doda, has not been arrested so far. A massive hunt has been launched to arrest him," DIG Ferozepur Range, Amar Singh Chahal said.
Punjab Police had issued a look out circular against Shiv Lal Doda and his nephew Amit Doda on Saturday in the case.
The duo has been booked for conspiracy in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old Dalit man Bhim Sain whose limbs were chopped off by suspected henchmen of a liquor baron in Abohar on December 11. Sain is the grandson of former Congress councillor Kashmiri Lal.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Congress had accused the Punjab Police of "going soft" on the Akali leader and his nephew due to pressure from the ruling SAD-BJP government.
The police have so far arrested 13 persons in the case.
