A very youthful fair

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: From handicrafts, food items to books ‘Youth Exhibition’, organised by Youth Welfare Board is awaiting visitors on Kanakakkunnu Palace grounds. Stalls of various organisations such as Kudumbashree, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Kerala Fire and Rescue services, Kerala Police etc. have been arranged inside.ISRO’s stall has displayed the models of GSLV Mk III, GSLV, PSLV, INSAT and Cartosat 2. There are also displays detailing their latest missions like PSLVC-19 and RISAT-1. Informative and self-explanatory exhibits showcasing the major milestones in the history of ISRO are also there.Kerala Police have come up with a display of photographs of major incidents which appeared in newspapers. The big attraction here is the display of rifles and tear gas munitions. The tear gas munitions include those which can be controlled by hand or by using a gun. The bomb detection and anti-sabotage team also takes part by showcasing numerous equipment at the exhibition. Kerala Fire and Rescue Services has on display a set of materials used in emergency situations to douse fire. A working model of power ascender, which is utilised for climbing high-rises on fire is an attraction. Hydraulic rescue tools and power generators are also among the displays. Photographs of the major fire and rescue operations held at various parts of the state are also displayed. Murugan S, an autorickshaw driver who helps abandoned people on the streets to find shelter, has come up with a display of photographs on the plight of such people.Kerala Book Mark has a good number of books covering several topics that are available at discount rates. Books priced at ` 100 has a 10 percent discount. Those above Rs 500 will get 20 percent discount and above ` 5000 will have 30 percent discount.Various Kudumbashree units have come up with a wide gamut of products. Mouth-watering  pickles and snacks to toys and apparels are displayed. The stalls put up by the Youth Welfare Board have exhibits on the major activities of Kerala Government over the past one year. For the food buffs, there await nine variety of Halwas from Kozhikode. Clothing, jewellery and handicrafts from various states are also among them. The exhibition will conclude on Sunday.
