Minister Ramdas raids 2 BSc Nursing exam centres

Over 500 candidates were found copying in BSC Nursing examinations at two centres during a surprise raid by Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas in the city on Wednesday.

He raided Srinivas College of Pharmacy, an authorised examination centre,  and M R DEd College which provides facility for the examinations.

Some candidates fled the examination centres while others were visibly shocked to see a posse of officials led by the minister.

It was more shocking that the faculty were helping these candidates by supplying books and other materials.

Ramdas said, “On a tip-off from a source, we conducted the raids and found that the colleges had indulged in outright malpractices sand fraudulent services. Despite the fact that a raid was conducted in Bellary on Monday, some colleges have still been found to be engaged in fraudulent practices.”

A student from a nursing college in Rajasthan confessed that she was provided with the answers and had come to Bangalore for the BSc Nursing exams.

“Most students, who have been granted the permission to appear for the BSc Nursing exams are from other states. A student has openly admitted that she is not from any college in the state and that she has been allowed to appear for the exams and copy from chits,” said Ramdas.

At M R DEd College,  students fled from the scene of malpractice and hid in the bathroom after being caught red-handed.

Several students at this centre were found to be sitting in the staff room and copying from textbooks. Students were also seen throwing chits out of the classroom. However, Special Officer for Medical Education Raghupathy said that a re-examination will be held for the candidates of these centres.

It may be recollected that the pass percentage in B Sc Nursing exams in 2010 was 83.3 while in 2011 it dropped to just 17.9.
